To obtain a work permit in China, there are several steps you need to follow:

1. Job Offer: You need a job offer from a Chinese employer. Ensure the offer is legitimate and includes details such as the job description, salary, and contract duration.

2. Documentation: Prepare the necessary documentation for your work permit application. This typically includes:

  • A criminal background check. Some regions may require a non-criminal record or police clearance certificate from your home country or previous residence.
  • A valid passport. You must have a passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining.
  • CV or resume: A comprehensive document outlining your educational background, work experience, and skills.
  • Educational certificate. Copies of your academic qualifications, such as diplomas or degrees relevant to your field of work.
  • Medical checkup. You may need to undergo a medical examination to prove you are healthy.
  • Marriage certificate. If you apply for a work permit in China with your spouse, you can bring your family to China under S1/2 visa. However, in this case, your family cannot work in China. Visa allows your spouse to stay in China legally while you are working.
  • Passport-sized photos: Recent passport-sized color photos with a white background.

3. Employer’s Responsibility: Your employer needs to apply for a Foreigner’s Work Permit Invitation Letter and a Notification Letter for Foreigners to Work in China. These documents are required for your work permit application.

4. Application Process: Your employer will submit your work permit application to the relevant authorities. The process usually takes a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on the efficiency of the local authorities.

5. Work Visa: Once your work permit is approved, your employer will provide you with the necessary documents to apply for a Work Visa (Z visa) for you and S1/2 Visa for your family at the Chinese embassy or consulate in your home country.

6. Entry to China: After you receive your Work Visa, you can enter China legally within 3 months and start working with your employer. Within 30 days of arrival, you must convert your Work Visa into a Residence Permit, which allows you to stay in China for a longer period.

It’s important to note that specific requirements and procedures may vary slightly in different cities or provinces in China. It is advisable to consult with your employer or a professional immigration service to ensure you have the latest and accurate information for your specific situation.
